The most intelligent speed camera ever created

The most advanced speed camera ever designed is being introduced in the U.K and if it’s proves to be a success we could see it introduced in Ireland. The camera is knows as ASSET (Advanced Safety and Driver Support for Essential Road Transport) and what makes it unique from the bog standard speed cameras is it uses 3D technology that can detect multiple driving offences within seconds.

Apart from calculating your speed it is also capable of detecting if a driver is wearing a seatbelt, and even how far you are from the car in front to see if you are tailgating.

But wait if you thought that was more than enough, this device is also able to read your licence plate to see if the driver has valid insurance and can tell if VRT was paid on the vehicle.

ASSET will be able to generate multiple offences in seconds by connecting to a main database with all vehicle details. But don’t start panicking just yet, the camera wont be going into production in the U.K. until 2013 and even then with it costing £50,000 per camera I cant imagine our government running out and buying many of them, or then again.
